Danish saddle-maker and master upholsterer Erik Jørgensen (1928–1998) was an essential titan of mid-century Scandinavian furniture making. In 1954, he established his eponymous upholstery workshop in Svendborg, dedicated to extraordinary leatherwork, precise hand-stitching, and ergonomic foam sculpting. Jørgensen earned worldwide acclaim both through his own designs and visionary partnerships with modernist masters. His studio realized Poul M. Volther’s iconic Corona Chair (EJ5) and Hans J. Wegner’s Ox Chair, translating radical organic shells into reality. His own signature work includes the classic EJ 315 sofa—defined by meticulous hand-tufted buttons—and the modular Delphi sofa designed alongside Hannes Wettstein.
