MSDS Studio
Toronto-based multidisciplinary practice MSDS Studio—founded in 2011 by Jessica Nakanishi and Jonathan Sabine—is celebrated for an elemental, graphic aesthetic that synthesizes Scandinavian functionalism, Japanese materiality, and North American industrial pragmatism. The studio operates across interior architecture, furniture, and lighting. MSDS achieved global acclaim through fruitful partnerships with leading Danish design houses. For Muuto, they designed the acclaimed Post lighting collection—an innovative architectural lamp system utilizing modular magnetic LED lighting units that reposition freely along a steel rod—alongside the Halves side table, crafted from acrylic stone composite. For WOUD, they created the Annular pendant and the Level daybed, pairing geometric silhouettes with tactile warmth.
