Danish architect and designer Hans Bølling (b. 1931) is internationally beloved for infusing Scandinavian modernism with humor, emotional warmth, and playful vitality. Originally training as an advertising designer before graduating in architecture from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Bølling’s work spans private villas, furniture, and tactile wooden figures. Bølling achieved worldwide acclaim for his delightful animal figurines, created in the late 1950s and produced today by ArchitectMade, including the articulated teak Duck & Duckling and the lovable wooden Dog. In furniture, his signature triumph is the Bølling Tray Table (1963)—a two-tiered serving trolley on wheels featuring reversible colored discs within an articulated wooden frame, alongside contemporary seating collections for Brdr. Krüger.
