Description
The China Chair Model 4283 by Fritz Hansen, originally designed in 1944 by the legendary master cabinetmaker Hans J. Wegner, stands as a historic milestone of the Danish Modern movement and holds the unique distinction of being the only solid wood chair in the company's entire collection. Inspired by the timeless, poetic geometry of 17th and 18th-century antique Chinese folding chairs from the Ming Dynasty, this heirloom-quality armchair showcases Wegner's peerless ability to transform raw timber into a fluid, sculptural monument. Individually handcrafted in Denmark using an incredibly demanding manufacturing process, each chair is assembled from 22 precision-cut wooden components that undergo meticulous hand-sanding to achieve a silky, touch-responsive finish before being treated with protective oil or lacquer. The ergonomic, organic curvature of the armrest wraps around the user to support a relaxed posture, while a reversible loose seat cushion padded with premium foam and tufted with central buttons adds a layer of tailored luxury. Measuring 82 cm in total height, 55 cm in width, and 55 cm in depth with a 45 cm seat height and 68 cm high armrests, the chair’s structural frame is available in natural Solid Cherry wood or striking Black Coloured Ash. It can be customized in an elite spectrum of natural leathers—such as Fritz Hansen's Aura or Pure variants—making it an unparalleled, freestanding centerpiece for sophisticated dining rooms, executive meeting spaces, or private galleries.
