John Astbury
British-born, Stockholm-based designer John Astbury is celebrated for a quiet, foundational aesthetic that explores archetype, proportion, and weight. Trained initially in anthropology and sociology in England before studying product design at Konstfack in Stockholm, Astbury approaches objects as cultural artifacts built to endure.

Astbury gained international recognition through fruitful partnerships with leading Nordic design houses. For Danish brand &Tradition, he conceived the Column Shelving system, the Geppetto storage series, and the architectural Tung Table—a monolithic side table cast in glossy ceramic inspired by sea buoys and maritime posts. For Swedish lighting brand Pholc, he created the minimalist Bounce and Apollo luminaires.
Column by John Astbury for &Tradition is a small series consisting of two wall shelves that differ in proportions, surface structures and materials, but together create a harmonious impression. The Tung side table consists of a round tabletop and three pillar-like legs, which give the table an architectonic touch. Made from MDF with a high-gloss surface, the Tung table boasts at the same time a sympathetic, graceful expression as well as bold, monolithic strength. Tung makes a great eye-catcher and a conversation starter in any space and works equally well as a minimalist bedside table or as a side table or plant stand in the living room.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0832/4150/0993/files/cbc9b957-6756-4d01-995f-92df2028bafe.webp?v=1793341558
