{"title":"Mathieu Matégot","description":"Hungarian-born French designer Mathieu Matégot was a defining pioneer of post-war European modernism. Bridging the worlds of sculpture, tapestry, and industrial craft, Matégot revolutionized mid-century interiors by transforming utilitarian sheet metal into an airy, fabric-like medium of delicate elegance.\n\nHis groundbreaking breakthrough was Rigitulle—a patented material fusing perforated metal with slender steel tubing that could be bent and folded like paper. Through this technique, Matégot brought weightless transparency and dancing patterns of light and shadow to domestic objects. Celebrated designs such as the sculptural Nagasaki Chair, the organic Copacabana lounge, and his iconic perforated bowls and coat racks (faithfully reissued by GUBI) capture his joyful spirit and fluid geometry.\n\nMatégot turned rigid steel into poetic, lace-like art, creating buoyant mid-century icons that remain timeless.","products":[{"product_id":"dedal-shelf-soft-black","title":"Dédal Shelf","description":"The Dédal shelf finds its inspiration in minimalist design and geometric shapes. With its geometrical shapes and finely-balanced arms creating outstanding sculptural aesthetics, the Satellite’s name and concept were Matégot’s tribute to the scientific progress and optimism found in post-war France. The Satellite Wall Lamp comprises two shades made from Rigitulle – Matégot’s technique of folding and bending perforated steel into an original oblong shaped lamp shade – which are mounted onto sculptural metal arms. The result is a unique interplay of transparency, weightlessness and balance, with a casting of light and shadow that is at once atmospheric and festive. The Rigitulle shades of the Satellite Wall lamp are available in Creamy White, Soft Black Semi Matte or a combination of the two, and mounted on a Soft Black Semi Matte fixture and arms. Despite the name, it can also be mounted to the ceiling to create a stunning centerpiece.
